Comforting Red Lentil Dal
made with Arvinda’s Curry Masala
Looking for the ultimate Indian comfort food? Well this dal is it. Our most loved lentil curry is super easy to prepare and will always please and satisfy, lending you the comfort you crave on colder days. Serves best with fresh, warm chapatis and with basmati rice.
Comforting Red Lentil Dal
Ingredients
- 1 CUP red split lentils
- 4 CUPS water
- 1 TSP. sea salt, or to taste
- 1 TBSP. ghee or butter
- 1 small onion, peeled and finely chopped
- 1 TBSP. ARVINDA’S CURRY MASALA
- ½ TSP. ARVINDA’S GARAM MASALA, to garnish
- 2 TBSP. finely chopped cilantro, to garnish
Instructions
1. Wash the lentils in 4 to 5 changes of water or until the water runs clear. Drain.
2. In a medium pot, add the lentils, water and the salt. Partially cover the pot with a lid and simmer on medium-high for 10 to 15 minutes, until the lentils are thoroughly cooked.
3. In a separate pot, melt the ghee on medium-high. Add the onions and fry until softened, approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Add ARVINDA’S CURRY MASALA, mix and cook on medium heat for a couple of minutes. Add the cooked lentils, stir and simmer until the lentils thicken. Add salt to taste.
4. To serve, garnish with cilantro and a sprinkle of ARVINDA’S GARAM MASALA. Serve hot with chapatis and rice.
